Have You Ever Truly Considered Where You Stand Before God?
1. Realize You Are Guilty Before a Holy God
God is perfectly holy, and His standard is absolute. The Bible says, "There is none righteous, not even one" (Romans 3:10). That's not just a theological statement—it's a verdict. Have you ever lied? Stolen? Lusted? Used God's name as a curse word? We all have. Jesus said that hating someone makes you guilty of murder in God's sight, and that looking with lust makes you guilty of adultery. God sees every thought, every motive, every word. On the Day of Judgment, if God judges you by the standard of His Law—the Ten Commandments—will you be innocent or guilty? The honest answer for every human being is the same: guilty. And the sentence is serious: "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). Not just physical death—eternal separation from God. That is what you and I deserve.
2. Recognize What God Did About It
Here is where the Gospel becomes the greatest news in human history. God did not leave you in your guilt. "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Jesus—fully God, fully man, and without sin—took the punishment you deserved. He absorbed the full wrath of God against your sin on the cross. He was buried. On the third day, He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death forever.
Through faith in Jesus, His perfect righteousness is credited to your account—and your sin was credited to His. This is what the Bible calls justification: you are declared not guilty, fully forgiven, and made righteous in the sight of God. "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21).
The Judge of the universe stepped off the bench and paid your fine. Jesus did not come to make bad people good—He came to make dead people alive.
3. Repent—Turn From Sin Completely
The Bible's call is not simply to add Jesus to your existing life. It is to turn—completely—from sin and to God. "Repent, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away" (Acts 3:19). Repentance is not just feeling sorry. It is a complete change of direction. You stop running from God and start running toward Him. You agree with God that your sin is serious, that you are guilty, and that you have no hope apart from His mercy. This is not a small step—it is the most courageous decision a human being can make.
4. Receive Jesus as Savior and Lord—by Faith
Salvation is not earned by church attendance, good behavior, or religious effort. It is received by faith—trusting completely in what Jesus alone accomplished on your behalf. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in" (Revelation 3:20). Receiving Jesus means surrendering the throne of your life to Him—not just as Savior, but as Lord. This is not a transaction; it is a transfer of ownership. Your life is no longer yours. And that is the greatest freedom you will ever know.
